Ultra RARE 1979 Gibson Les Paul K.M. Kalamazoo Custom Made in Cherry Sunburst. This was an exclusive limited Custom Shop model and only the first few had a "Custom Made" plaque mounted below the tailpiece by the factory, which this one has! This is the finest example we have seen anywhere in the world.
It has the legendary and very rare Gibson T-Top pickups that were forced to be discontinued due to Gibson losing a lawsuit over them to DiMarzio! This was the only model that received the cream T-Top humbuckers from the factory! The Les Paul K.M. was designed for southern rockers and intended to be a sunburst Les Paul that more closely approximated ’59 Standard specs and was the first ever Custom Shop Re-Issue type of guitar to be released and was done so by Gibson 20 years on. This was one of the last Les Pauls ever produced in the Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, on the old machines, by the old craftsmen! The importance of this model to the history of Gibson is incredible and is a great investment opportunity for those looking for a totally rare and unique Custom model from the original factory!
The guitar has exposed-coil, double-cream, T-top humbuckers, speed knobs, large, black side dot markers, a Nashville bridge, stop tailpiece, Grover tuners, wide binding in the cutaway, brown backplates, and “Les Paul K. M. ” engraved on the truss rod cover. The first run had a “Custom Made” plaque loose in the case or mounted below the tailpiece. The guitar was available in Antique Sunburst, Natural, or Cherry Sunburst finish. A total of approximately 1,500 Les Paul KMs were made with only the first batch receiving the "Custom Made" plaque as seen on this example.
