ULTRA RARE Vintage Ibanez Mario Maccaferri MAC 10 gypsy jazz acoustic guitar for sale signed by Mario Maccaferri! This is the Holy Grail of vintage Ibanez guitars and is the most iconic gypsy jazz model, made famous by Django Reinhardt. The original Selmer 1930's model sells for tens of thousands of dollars. Mario Maccaferri was a world famous Italian luthier (who later emigrated to America) that invented this D-hole shape guitar, invented laminate bodies for acoustics, invented the plastic ukulele (selling over 9 million units) as well as plastic reeds for woodwind instruments and plastic bath/kitchen tiles.
Legendary British importer and gypsy jazz guitarist Maurice Summerfield tracked down Maccaferri in the mid 70's, travelling to New York to meet him in person and to convince him to commission his only ever authorised reissue of the original 1931 model. Maccaferri enthusiastically agreed! Summerfield held the exclusive Ibanez distribution contract outside of Japan and knew their top luthiers were up for the task of recreating this legendary guitar. Only 440 were ever made. This is number 50 and signed on the label by Mario Maccaferri to approve its quality. It was this reissue that actually made the D-hole acoustic super famous and mass copied/produced by other famous guitar companies in the past 40 years!
